Karen A. Genzel, MSN, APRN, ACCNS-P, CPEN

Karen is a Pediatric Emergency Clinical Nurse Specialist, APRN at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital at OU Health and Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing. She is a BSN alumna of the Jacksonville University and went on to earn her Master of Science as an APRN, ACCNS-P from Old Dominion University. Karen is pursuing her doctoral degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing.

Karen has expertise in pediatric and adult emergency and critical care, and as a Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). She leverages her expertise and experience at a macrosystems level to improve patient healthcare delivery and outcomes. Karen enjoys mentoring bedside nurses to develop and enhance leadership qualities through learning and collaborative quality improvement practices. She serves as the Chair of the OU Health APP Council, she has been instrumental in identifying and improving communication and inclusion of all APPs across OU Health and OU Health Partners.

Karen has collaborated on pediatric emergency and trauma care delivery with American Academy of Pediatrics, Health Resources and Services Administration, and Navajo Nation. She enjoys volunteering as a medical provider locally and internationally. She has had the honor to presented pediatric, interprofessional collaboration, and quality improvement topics locally and nationally.
